In-Drum Compactors & Drum Crushers

Hazardous Waste Compactors

By processing the waste into a more dense form significant savings can be achieved by a reduction of storage and disposal costs. Shipping costs would be reduced, as well as exposure to accidents incident to transportation and handling.

The major industrial markets that benefit from compaction are manufacturing processes that have finish and painting operations, aerospace manufacturing, and computer or semiconductor related manufacturing. The Navy utilizes them for shipboard generated hazardous wastes.

Low Level Radioactive Waste Compactors

DISPOSAL:

Disposal fees are charged by volume, not weight. Currently, it costs generators more than $2,000 per barrel to dispose of low-level radioactive wastes. The more you can get into a container, the more you save. The CTI Compaction System packs waste more densely, thereby, saving users thousands of dollars.

CTI has been producing state of the art drum compactors for years and is an innovator of unique targeted equipment to handle specific waste streams. Extremely safe and reliable, the CTI Compaction System meets the needs for burial for today—and is designed for the storage needs of the future.

DECAY & STORAGE:

If your waste stream consists of short lived radionuclides. CTI offers a unit that allows you to package the shorter lived materials into either a 30 gallon or 55 gallon polyethylene drum. Which is then, held for decay. You still have the flexibility to package into the standard 55 gallon steel drum for disposal.

FEATURES:

  • Stainless Steel Exterior eases decontamination
  • ALARA considerations are addressed with the Quick Chute, limiting operator exposure
  • Microprocessor control maximizes density through the use of variable cycles
  • Zero-tolerance compactor chamber minimizes drum distortion
  • HEPA filter removes particles as small as 0.3 microns with 99.97% efficiency
  • All volatile vapors, dusts and liquids are effectively contained, in compliance with EPA and OSHA codes as required, for each application.

The Model CTI60 provides safe compaction and economical retrieval of valuable hazardous chemical liquids and hazardous waste materials. The CTI 8560 compactor features an innovative, easy-to-use programmable logic controller unlike any other compactor in its class. The safest crush method in the industry (speed, force, “continuous push, gas purge, gas filtration and liquid extraction) combined with the customizable program safely handles the unique characteristics of your hazardous materials.

  • 60,000 lbs. of compaction force
  • CTI’s patented Zero Tolerance Compaction Chamber is completely enclosed and provides support to the drum to minimize potential damage or distortion
  • Microprocessor controller governs and monitors compactor operating status and safety features. Includes the hold-down cycle which helps destroy memory (springback) of the waste, maximizing compaction results
  • The CTI “Quick Chute allows waste to be loaded directly into the drum without opening the main chamber door, minimizing operator exposure to the waste
  • The entire unit, including all hydraulic and electrical components, is enclosed in stainless steel which enhances the safety of the operator and prevents incidental contact with other equipment such as a forklift
  • The stainless steel skin also provides for easy cleanup, long life and quiet operation (55 decibels)
  • Energy efficient two stage hydraulics require only 12 gallons of fluid and prolong component life
  • Chromed steel compacting platen is 2″ thick and is supported by 2 (two) 2″ chromed steel guide rods, minimizing potential platen, piston and seal damage due to uneven loading
  • Keyed power switch precludes unauthorized use and keyed side access panels prevent tampering and unauthorized maintenance
  • Indicator lights, (e.g. power on, doors closed, ram up/down, drum full, etc.) allow the operator to ascertain the status of the compactor at all times
  • Drum bottom anvil supports the recessed bottom of the drum and along with the zero tolerance chamber allow for perfect positioning of the drum under the platen
  • NEMA 4 electrical system
Model CTI 50 Compactor Series safely compacts dry, solid or saturated hazardous materials and low-level radioactive waste to provide efficient, space-saving storage, reduced hazardous waste disposal fees and minimal hazardous material drum disposal costs.
